“we can’t really know the pleasure of running in our only language until we’re forced to stumble in someone else’s”
Been living in seoul for 10 months now and am still 50-50.In january i thought winter was harsh but summer came along and disproved such notions it is so damn hooot.its like the sun came out to play with his cousins. My korean friends think am crazy..apparently africans should be used to the heat coz africa is one big desert. The people are ok as far as asians go but they have to be the most racist race ever.they worship americans so much so that in their hierarchial order americans come first then koreans, japanese,UK,other asian countries and the rest of the world.we are all racist but their love for all things american is tad bit crazy.
in high school i hated french classes now i miss those days, why oh why couldn’t all the world’s languages use the alphabet as a standard.all these signs and intonations are killing korean must be the most difficult language to grasp.
on the other hand its highly industrialized and the internet connection is fabulously superb.its one of the things i miss when i go back to nairoberry.the roads are bila potholes/craters which is just amazing but the traffic is attrocious.i mean they’ve got roads almost as high as the buildings but still traffic jams at 3am on a saturday that is just plain absurd.had there been as many connecting highways and freeways in nairobi traffic would be non existent.
and the bowing thing is in direct contravention of my culture.how am i expected to bow to someone just because they’re 2 months older…how.food is ok as far as squid goes, but that kimchi is just unpalatable—radish or cabbage pickled in garlic water and hot pepper paste.really…
as a second world country that refuses to speak english its ok.they have their own share of corruption and political shenanigans but it cant be compared to our anglofleecing or goldenberg. When it comes to corruption and distorted leadership africans took the cue from western countries and just ran with it.
asia is definitely interesting so maybe i like it maybe not lets see how i fair for the next…not too many years.plan to keep visiting places.china, hongkong and phillipines are done.but i have to go back to china–tiananmen square..i like historical places.
